🏺 Origin of the Name

It is believed that the name Marvanthuruthu originated from the name of the community known as the "Maravans" who lived here in ancient times.

👑 Vempalanad and the Vadakkumkoor Dynasty

The Vembanad Lake region was known as Vempalanad in ancient times. This region is closely associated with the history of the Vadakkumkoor dynasty.

⚔️ Pandya Rule

Historical studies indicate that Vempalanad was under Pandya rule and that this period strengthened the widespread use of the name Vembanad.

🌊 Vembanad Lake Culture

Marvanthuruthu developed as a center of fishing, water transport, agricultural life, and a lake-based culture.

✊ Vaikom Satyagraha

The social impact of the Vaikom Satyagraha during 1924-25 became a major inspiration for the social development and renaissance ideas of Marvanthuruthu.

🏛️ Formation of the Panchayat

Marvanthuruthu Village Panchayat was formed in 1953. The Panchayat grew as an excellent model of people-oriented planning and local self-government.

A famous water festival in Kerala with a history of more than 170 years. It is celebrated on the Ashwathi day of the Malayalam month of Meenam.

📚 Vijnanapradayini Reading Room

Established in 1949, it is known as one of the early libraries in the Panchayat.

🎨 Ajantha Kalavedi

A cultural institution established in 1977. It functions with the affiliation of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi.

Educational institutions including Kulasekharamangalam High School have contributed many talented individuals to society. An institution associated with the educational life of Malayalam cinema superstar Padma Shri Mammootty.
